Dear Aspirant,

Knowledge by itself can be boring.

Teacher: I want you all to memorise all the tables from 1-10

Student: Why do I have to do that??

If you were one of those kids in school who rebelled against your teacher, against the system, against rote memory, give me a high five. Earlier I said that knowledge by itself was boring. Then what makes it interesting?

Knowledge coupled with the application can be interesting.

Initially, when I learnt Geography in school, I found it to be a dry subject. Not because it had a number of deserts (PJ alert). I could never relate to the topics or apply what I read to what I saw. Things have changed now. Geography has suddenly become one of my favourite subjects.

I tweeted a simple question that popped into my mind was -- "How is the Bangalore Climate so cool ?"

I got a number of detailed explanations ranging from altitude to pressure systems. A bit of googling helped me realise that the altitude of Bangalore was 910 m. While I stayed there for a couple of months, I never imagined this to be the case.

I had been to the Araku Valley region of Andhra Pradesh a couple of times. The climate is cool and pleasant. It is located in the Eastern Ghats and the prominent hilly terrain is a contrast to the climate in Vizag. While both are at a distance of 120 Km they vary in altitude by about 900 m.

Wk #30: July 24-31, 2022

There are some weeks when we might have some personal emergency. It is easy to just give that as an excuse and not finish the Quiz. Sometimes if the problem is too big, maybe it is better to take a break.

I had a similar situation this week. But then managed to finish the pending quizzes today. My future self will look back at this email and pat myself :)
